W says What?!

What a wild time we had with the letter W.
We read a book about walking and another about worms. We found out that when our pointer fingers and thumbs touch each other our pointers jump back and yell WHAT! helping us practice making the letter W with our fingers.

Then we talked about words that start with W like: WATER and WHALES, WALKING and WIGGLING, and then the color WHITE.
Lastly, went outside and practiced wiggling, walking, and eating some yummy white powdered donuts!

Friday our old friend Camille came to visit and we talked all about watermelons. We learned that seeds get put the ground and grow with sun and WATER and you have to pull the WEEDS. Then we made our own paper watermelons and sampled some juicy watermelon!

The Rad Letter R

We had so much fun doing R activities this week! (And I didn't forget to take photos this time!)
The week began with rainbow fun. We started the day off with matching colored pom poms to the colors of the rainbow and gluing them down.

Then we played in rainbow rice! They quickly became very preoccupied with scooping and digging around and finding all of the little treasures that were buried inside.

This is what it looked like before all of the little hands started exploring through it.

We read this book during snack time and talked about how colorful this rooster is.

Another of our R activities included this one where we used play dough and straws to practice writing the letter. I liked this one a lot because it also helped them practice their fine motor skills - bonus!

After that we took the straws out of the play dough and they rolled pieces of it into lines and formed it to the R that was written on the paper on the table.

We also talked about rockets this week!
We talked about how they fly high up into the sky and into outer space. Then they each colored their own little rocket and we attached that to a small cylindrical piece of paper. Using a straw, they put the rocket on the end of them and blew into the straw. Mini blastoff!

We had a special guest launch a real rocket for us! Chris set up a rocket and explained to the kids what was going to happen before he launched it. Then we all stood back and counted down. 3, 2, 1 - blastoff!

The Lovely Letter L

We talked about L this week.
The first thing we did to introduce the letter was play with Legos and build L's out of them. There were so many colorful L's!
We read this sweet book about friendship and love.

We did some other fun activities throughout the week to highlight the letter L.
Different shapes were used to make mosaic lizards and we practiced sticking our tongues out like real lizards.
We tried taste-testing lemons and after that we used them to stamp patterns onto our big letter L's. Jessa loved her lemon and just wanted to eat it all up!
After the sourness of the lemons we decided to sweeten things up and practiced licking some lollipops. They all really liked that activity!
We also made lamb masks out of cotton balls and paper plates. After the glue had dried we pretended to be lambs and baaa'd all over the place!

I totally spaced getting any pictures of the kiddos doing their fun stuff until the very end of the week.
Here are a few lamb-y pictures!
